RatePoint™ is a proprietary single-source tax solution for rate lookup and monitoring needs. Its unique location-based monitoring functionality facilitates turn-key updates to sales and use tax rates for your North American locations, including The United States, Canada, Native American Reservations, Puerto Rico, and the outlying U.S. Territories. RatePoint™ data can be delivered two ways: a flat file or a web-based application. The file's jurisdictions include break-outs by country, state, province, county, city, and multiple districts. District rates include, but are not limited to:
*Alabama Police Jury
*Regional Transportation Authorities
*Metropolitan Transportation Authorities
*Water Commissions
*Special Purpose Districts
*Mass Transit Authorities
*School, Fire and Drainage Districts
*Capital Projects
*Library and Hospital Districts
The file is based on US Postal Service (ZIP) and Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) supported geocodes, and contains over 66,000 distinct geocodes and ZIP combinations. It also includes special rates for maximum taxing and tax thresholds, as well as historical rate data. Second Decimal provides regular periodic updates to the RatePoint data as needed. The files can be delivered with an initial "full/master" data file containing all of the current data for every jurisdiction, and then supplied in incremental updates reflecting only the changes thereafter. The file can also be provided in a format that will load into Second Decimal's PinPoint application for tax calculation on purchases, or delivered in any other required format.
Web Services API
The
RatePoint application supports a robust web-services Application
Programming
Interface (API) to facilitate seamless integrations with other systems
that can call it
for a tax rate (i.e. ERP and/or other billing systems).
GeoSpatial Rate Determination/Monitoring
Second Decimal has formed a partnership with Pitney Bowes. Under the partnership their technology will be coupled with Second Decimal’s RatePoint application. The combined solution/service can take a standard postal address and run it through a certified address cleansing procedure so that it conforms to the USPS standards, assign it a state and local taxing jurisdiction(s), and determine the applicable sales/use tax rates for the location. It can also leverage lat/long for the same purpose. In addition, the solution can track all the locations and monitor them for rate and/or jurisdiction changes. You can find out more about the partnership by reviewing the Pitney Bowes press release.
